đ What Iâm Reading:
My Mantra â Stay Balanced: Tanner Bell
A fantastic article by Tanner Bell where he discusses the advantage of staying balanced when drafting your fantasy baseball team, and how that allows for the opportunity of achieving better player value later in drafts as well as in-season for waiver-wire pickups. The most important point is that balance opens you up to more possibilities to winning. Remember, there is never one âset it and forget itâ way to win at this game. Also, definitely check out the excel tools for aggregating projections and valuing players that Tanner has on his website smartfantasybaseball.com. Itâs money well spent!
đ§ What Iâm Hearing:
High Stakes Fantasy Network Episode 1 & 2
Was very much excited for the debut of the National Fantasy Baseball Championshipâs High Stakes Fantasy podcast as they will interview and highlight top players from the high-stakes leagues of baseball (the NFBC) as well as football (the NFFC). It seemed natural to debut the first episode with the person getting all the attention right now, the 2021 NFBC Main Event and Auction champion Phil Dussault. (Even I wrote about PhilâŠyes, shameless plug enter here). Anyway, it will be great to have Greg Ambrosius and/or Tom Kessenich âpick the brainsâ of some of the most successful NFBC players to learn more about their process. Even if you donât play in the NFBC, there is always something to learn from listening to folks that have played fantasy baseball at a consistently high-level.
đ Metric of the Week:
OPS
This metric is the sum of on-base percentage and slugging percentage. It can be a very simple way to measure an overall hitterâs value (getting on base and power), and whether that player is performing well (OPS over .800) or could be in danger of being benched or platooned (OPS less than 650).
đŹ Quote of the Week:
âGreat ones are willing to get burned time and again as they sharpen their swords in the fire.â â Josh Waitzkin
